Horsfield’s Flying Gecko or Horsfield’s Parachute Gecko, Gekko horsfieldii (GRAY, 1827) of Sarawak / Borneo around 1160m ASL.
Gekko horsfeldii was long classified as Ptychozoon horsfeldii (Ptychozoon (= “folded animal”)). They are characterized by their gliding ability. Flying geckos live in tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia including the Philippines, the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan, and the Nicobar Islands. Ptychozoon was originally considered a distinct genus. However, in 2012, a study of gliding Southeast Asian lizards found that Ptychozoon is deeply embedded in the genus Gekko. It is therefore now considered a subgenus of the genus Gekko.
