Kobayashi’s horned frog, Pelobatrachus kobayashii Malkmus and Matsui, 1997 from Sabah / Borneo.
A few years ago, I had the chance to photograph the rare Pelobatrachus kobayashii. Nevertheless, I wanted to find and photograph this very impressive and very large horned frog again. Even in the first description, it is stated that P. kobayashii is to be regarded as rather rare. In 2017, we searched for a specimen for several hours. This year, I was lucky – it only took about 10 minutes and I literally stumbled upon this impressive representative of Megophryidae. As a montane species, P. kobayashii is only found at altitudes of >1300m ASL and is endemic to the mountains of Sabah, Borneo.
