Fruit-piercing moth of the Eudocima Billberg, 1820 genus – central Sarawak / Borneo around 400m ASL

The fruit-piercing moth genus Eudocima is a striking moth known for its vivid hindwings and mischievous eating habits. Unlike most nectar-feeding moths, Eudocima moths use their spiny, needle-like proboscis to pierce fruit skins and drink the juices inside.

All Eudocima are interesting in any case: they have camouflaged forewings to hide during the day, colourful hindwings that you only see at night, and a preference for ripe fruit.
